Cheap Titanium Rings

Cheap Titanium Rings are not the best way to go – like anything you pay for what you get. You may pick up a cheap titanium at a flea market or budget jewellery shop – In most case the ring quality is sub standard – sharp edges, too thick or thin and worst of all you are never sure that you are getting titanium – stainless steel rings look very similar.

The only way to tell the difference is weight – stainless steel wedding rings are heavier than titanium. If the titanium wedding band is grey as apposed to a silvery colour, it is likely to be grade 2 titanium (or pure titanium). If the titanium is medical grade titanium it will have vanadium in it – which makes the color close to stainless steel.

Rather pay for originality

You best bet is to spend the extra and buy from a jeweller that can give you a guarantee that it is a titanium ring. Cheap titanium rings have flooded the market in the last 5 years – and yes, many of them are good quality. But your choice of designs is limited and you choice of ring sizes even more limited. If you want to wear a titanium wedding ring that is mass produced and comes from China so that you can save R200 or US$45 – go for it. I would prefer to buy a quality titanium wedding band that I can have engraved on the inside (usually for free), that is guarenteed to be titanium, and that I can get a valuation certificate for insurance. I would rather spend the extra and know that local titanium manufacturers are getting the business and not promote slave waged off shore.

It is, after all, your wedding ring. You will be wearing it for the rest of your life, and to know that it is titanium and that it is special, seems a small price to pay – especially as the extra is only a few hundred Rands!
